(Profession: Professor fo physics at the Fachhochschule Aargau, Member of Aiki-Kai Z\u00fcrich since 1985 and Aikido teacher since 1986). Herbert (born 1951) is walking the Budo way since his 16th birthday. Reading an article about Judo, he was fascinated by the ideas underlying the Japanese martial arts. Having been training Judo for 10 years he came into contact with Karate-Do, Aikido und Iai-Do, then already a Judo black belt. Being sceptical at first, he got more and more attracted by these „new“ martial arts, mainly due to the absence of sportive combats. The focus on sports only in Judo was finally the reason for Herbert to quit Judo. He started studying Aikido and Karate Do and obtained black belt degrees in both arts. Given the time available to practice and having seen that the essentials of all these arts are encompassed in Aikido, Herbert fully committed to Aikido.<\/p>\n

His teacher, Frank Doran Sensei, taught him that serious and severe training can be accomplished in a relaxed atmosphere and even be paired with humor.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
